Paul started in goal at the age of six were he played for local team Sheffield Rangers and then Stocksbridge juniors where he played for many years until being scouted by Sheffield united and signed school boy forms.
Paul represent Sheffield schools as a young goalkeeper and won Sheffield United school boy player off the year, he was then selected for a scholarship at the prestigious F.A National School of Excellence at Lilleshall were he did a two year scholarship along side many great future plays to the likes of Jamie Carrigher and Michael Owen and was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in England for his age. Whilst at Lilleshall Paul represented England youth in 14 competitive games reaching the quarter finals of the under 16s UEFA championships, he also played in 5 England youth friendlies with the most memorable being in South Africa in front of 40,000 people.In his time at Lilleshall he was coached by Martin Thomas who is now Head of Goalkeeper education at the FA After graduating from his scholarship he had the choice of a number of clubs who wanted his signature but chose to re-sign for Sheffield united, he made his first team debut at 17 against bitter rivals Wednesday in front of 30,000 fans in the steel city cup. After battling many injuries and first team games hard to come by playing under Irish international Allen Kelly he moved to Barnsley to be 3rd choice in there one and only premiership season ,whilst at Barnsley Paul worked with Dave Watson who is now the England Goalkeeper coach. In his search for first team football he later moved to Carlisle united , but then sustained a serious back injury which after 12 months rehab Paul failed to reach the high level of fitness needed to perform at the professional level and dropped down to non league football with Barrow AFC and then moved to Gretna FC , but due to the severity of Paul’s injury he sadly had to retire from competitive football. In his career Paul was coach by some of the most highly thought of keeper coaches to the likes of Paul Barron , Jim Barron , Roy Tunks , John Burridge , Steve Ogrizovic , Martin Thomas and Eric Steel. Over his career working with these coaches and working under influential mangers to the likes of Dave Bassett,Howard Kendal,Nigel Person, Danny Wilson and John Peacock and playing with and against a high calibre of players Paul feels he can give the students in his area all the knowledge he as picked up from his time in the professional game to help them achieve their full potential and be the best keeper they can , he prides himself on delivering the most up to date sessions ensuring his student receive all the fundamentals to perform in the ever changing modern game Paul coaches over 170 students a week and has help many join professional clubs he has direct contact with premier and local football league clubs.He is a F.A Licensed Goalkeeper coach , first aid trained fully insured c.r.b checked and up to date safe guarding children. Last year Paul help over 10 keepers gain professional acadamy statues and many more secured trials.
